When it comes to building a good website, there are some things that you need to decide on before you even get started. Make sure that you make good decisions at this time, and you will save time later on, as you will not have to make changes.
Domain Name – One of the biggest decisions you will make is what web address you get for your website. Many people feel that the free sites look bad, so it is best to purchase a domain for your online presence. If you already have a store, you will likely use the same name. If you are creating a store from the ground up, you may want to brainstorm and figure out a great name.
Privacy Statement – These days, security is a very important thing for people. As a result, it is advisable to post a privacy statement on your website listing what you will do with any information that you get from them. For some people, this is the difference between whether they purchase from you or not.
Budget – Are you able to build your website yourself of will you hire it out? There are reasons to do either, but if you are in a hurry or have no knowledge in regards to how to build a website, it is best to hire it out. Some people feel that they are able to build a website, but in reality, what they build looks very amateurish. Depending on your business, it would be best to hire it out.
Purpose – When it comes to building your website, it is best to know what the purpose of your site is. Are you trying to get people to come out and visit a bricks and mortar store, are you trying to get sales through your website and generate passive income streams, or are you just looking to share information and make money in the process. Once you know your purpose, it makes it much easier to design your site as different purposes will have a different type of site.
Target Audience – Who do you want to visit your website? If you are targeting the younger generation, a website is something that is no longer an option. If you are targeting the 65+ age group, chances are a website is not going to be much assistance for your business.
Offer Free Information – One of the best ways to get people to return to your website is to provide free information or services for your customers. This will cause your customers to come back and see what you have available for them, and after enough visits and if they find value on your website, they are likely to make a purchase. What are you going to offer to get people to return?
Before you start building your website, it is best to know what you want to accomplish and what type of information is going to be provided. If you go in with no clear picture, it is hard to know what you are going to need to put on the website.
