5 Entrepreneurship Myths Debunked
Starting an Online Business September 5th. 2010, 1:31pm
There are many things that people think about entrepreneurs that are nothing but myths. You may not be sure of why they are only myths, or even what these myths may be. This article explores what some of these are.
It is easy to be an entrepreneur.
When you see someone who is successful with their internet business, chances are they make it look easy. But what you do not see is how hard they work behind the scenes, and all the work that the person had to do to get where they are. It takes a lot of time and dedication to be successful, which is why many people fail.
It takes a lot of money to start a business.
A lot of this depends on the type of business that you are looking to start. A physical store can cost a fair bit due to rent, and the supplies that you will need. But these days, many people are using the Internet to start and run their business, which does not have to cost a lot of money. You can start a business for minimum costs as the costs that you will have will be more direct to your business, as you will not have rent or other extra costs.
Knowing the right people is what allows you to be successful.
While knowing someone may help you get started, it is not going to allow you to succeed in the long run. Chances are you are going to need more than a dozen or so customers, and while knowing people can help you get some of your first customers, you will eventually have to branch out further to keep your business operating.
Some people claim that teaming up with the right partner for your business is crucial and that luck plays a big role in the finding that person. In his recent article, however, internet entrepreneur Michael Fertik points to several qualities that you can look for in a good partner to help increase the probability that you find the partner that best compliments your abilities in business.
You will only be successful if you are in the right places at the right time.
While this may be helpful, it is not the only thing that allows a person to be successful. While you can be in the right place at the right time, if you do not have the drive then you will not be successful regardless. Chances are there are many opportunities that are always coming at you, and it is a matter of picking the right one for you.
People are successful because they launched their business as the perfect time.
While timing may have something to do with it, it is more than likely the business is servicing a need that the community is looking for. When you are able to provide something that fills in a need, then people will come out and support you. They want to make sure that they are able to get this product and that it will not go away. These business people likely are watching the market and the trends, and are able to identify this need before others do.
These are some of the top myths that are associated with being a successful entrepreneur. While there may be some truth in the myths which is what caused them to be started, they are just really the tip of the iceberg.
